-
- Although I sympathize with their problem controlling their growth, they've made
- it _my_ problem. I have sent them over different 20 problem descriptions in
- the past 1.5 months; I received exactly two responses, one of which was from a
- developer saying that he would look into the problem and the other from
- someone saying that she'd pass my problem along. I have to exit Windows
- repeatedly throughout the day to reinitialize things after a GPF.

-
- Actually, I like the product as well. I just don't think that as a company
- they are committed to servicing their customers, and I can't place
- my business and my own customer's satisfaction at risk due to their
- shortcomings. So I'm looking at other vendor's products and if I find a
- better solution I'll be moving on (and hopefully taking my 500+ clients
- with me). It's too bad, they could do well, but I need a relationship with a
- company that will be there when _I_ need them, not when _they_ can be
- available. If they can turn it around in the mean time, I will reconsider
- staying with them. I don't hold a grudge, but I do have a really long memory.

- For anyone else bummed out about this, your alternative is GCP++ Custom

-
- Chameleon is OK. It comes with lots of winsock apps...which are (IMHO)
- not quite as cool as the s/w stuff available on the net. Chameleon
- is strictly DLL-based, which shuts you off from DOS-box TCP/IP. I
- read that Netmanage is _not_ in a hurry to get with the VxD program.
-
- If you're not in a hurry to plunk down $$$, give the free (beta)
- TCP/IP stack from Microsoft a try. Its VxD-based. Doesn't come with
- a bunch of apps like Chameleon, but should run any winsock-compatible
- app like Trumpet news, WS_FTP, HGopher, Mosaic, Celllo, and Eudora
- mailer. I heard that a refined ver of this stack and some net apps
- may be included with Chicago.
-
- If you just gotta blow some money, give the folks at Frontier
- a holler. They've just released their VxD-based stuff. I haven't
- seen it yet, but the reviews are good (PCWEEK and INFOWORLD). It
- (SuperTCP/NFS 4.0) comes with NFS, FTP, email, terminal emulation,
- but I don't see anything about X (you could probably get NCD's
- great PC-Xware to run with this).
-
- Also, FTP is hard at work on a VxD-based product, due for release
- in a couple months.
-
- VxD will be the way to go.
